Chevrolet unveiled their new all-electric SUV, the Bolt EUV. The new EUV, Electric Utility Vehicle, is based on Chevy’s Bolt with more SUV proportions. The EUV is approximately six-inches longer than the Bolt.

“The new Bolt EUV is the best of the Bolt EV packaged in an SUV-like vehicle with more technology and features, giving customers more choices and reasons to switch to electric,” vice president of Chevrolet Steve Hill said.

The Bolt EUV will have an estimated range of 250-miles on a full charge. Power is provided by a 65 kilowatt-hour, lithium-ion battery pack. The single-motor drive unit has 200hp (150 kW) and 266 lb-ft of torque. Regen on Demand allows the driver to provide increased energy for the battery by pulling on a steering wheel-mounted paddle.

Another feature on the Bolt is One Pedal Driving, which allows the driver to accelerate, slow down and stop with only the accelerator pedal.

Chevrolet stated that standard DC fast public charging capability enables the Bolt EUV to have an additional range of 95-miles with 30-minutes of charging. Owners will have a better charging option due to the new Dual Level Power Chord that allows the customer to plug their Bolt EUV into a standard 120-volt three-prong outlet for Level 1 charging and a 240-volt outlet for Level 2 charging up to 7.2-kilowatts. The Dual Level Power Chord can eliminate the customer from buying a charging station.

The bane of an EV’s existence is the lack of charging stations when out and about. This is a sticking point for me when I have considered purchasing an EV. Long story short, I don’t want to be stranded on the side of the road because of a lack of charging station infrastructure options.

To combat this issue General Motors and EVgo have partnered to add 2,700 fast charging stations in the U.S. by the end of 2025. If successful it would triple the amount of fast-charging stations in the U.S.

Currently there are 80,000 chargers in North America for Chevy customers and the myChevy app can help travelers plan their trip around charging stations options and routes.

The Bolt EUV is the first Chevy vehicle to offer a true hands-free driving experience on more than 200,000-miles of enabled roads throughout North America. Super Cruise has a camera integrated into the steering column and combined with infrared sensors can determine where the driver is looking when the program is enabled.

If the system determines that the driver’s eyes aren’t on the road for an extended period of time the steering wheel light will engage to get the driver’s attention. If further inattentiveness is determined a series of alarms will notify the driver to take control of the wheel.

The Bolt EUV comes with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty on battery and electric components. Prices start at $33,995.00.
