10 Million Made: BMW Celebrates A 3 Series Sedan Production Milestone
By Paulo Acoba
BMW just produced its 10 millionth BMW 3-Series Sedan
It’s hard to imagine 10 million units of anything, but BMW sure can. Earlier yesterday (Sept. 9, 2015) BMW announced that they finished producing BMW 3-series number 10,000,000. The particular BMW that was built was a 2016 BMW 320d in lovely imperial Blue. To celebrate, a group of employees and management brought out some large paper numbers and all took a photo behind that landmark BMW made. 2015 also just happens to be the 40th anniversary of the launch of the original BMW 3-series sedan back in May of 1975 so this landmark car is most fitting for the occasion.
There are few cars you can classify as iconic in the true sense of the world. Amongst that list are such family cars as the Toyota Corolla the best-selling car in the entire world in terms of units, the Volkswagen Beetle, the car that mobilized a nation and the Ford F-150, currently the best selling vehicle (err…truck) in the entire world.
But when it comes to performance sedans that have withstood the test of time, there are no other contenders to iconic status like the BMW 3-series sedan. The car has lasted in total five generations (going on six) and received numerous accolades from car magazines and people alike. It was on Car and Drivers Ten Best list 22 times from 1992-2014 if that means anything. The 10 millionith BMW 3-series made, the 320d, was named “The Family Car of the Year” in 2012 according to Top Gear magazine. And its sporting credentials can’t be denied.

As the BMW 3-series enters its 40th year of production, the future bodes well for this best seller from Munich. And the numbers don’t lie. Just last month BMW sold more than 10,163 units in the United States alone. That accounts for a third of all BMW 3-series sold worldwide as in August 35,497 units were sold.
