Subaru Lets You Sit Shotgun As A Rally Driver In 360-Degree VR Video
By Paulo Acoba
Ever wonder what it feels like to be a pro-rally driver? Well now you can thanks to the guys at Subaru.
360-degree videos are all the rage by companies who want to throw a bit of PR awareness their way but oftentimes the video are downright boring and 360-degree views don’t add an ounce of enjoyment to a video that would’ve been just fine without it. This 360-degree video however is not. According to Subaru on their press release earlier today (Nov. 5, 2015) they’ve officially dropped the first 360-degree video that straps you to the roof of one of their rally cars as you blast through the woods. )

Sometimes racecars are all about stripping lightness and making sure that your car is as aerodynamic as possible, but this really isn’t the case in rally driving as all out speed and skill are more important than any amount of stripped weight and wind tunnel time. Thus, it was no problem to strap a 360-degree camera to the top of this Subaru’s roof.
And this wasn’t any ordinary Subaru car and driver as on this particular day Subaru laid down a blistering stage win that broke a 28-year-old record. Talk about two firsts in one day. This particular rally stage run was taken during the 2015 Lake Superior Performance Rally in Michigan, thus all the lovely fall leafery.
Although Subaru was really just pimping out their latest Subaru Motorsports App (which happened to be the first app btw to feature 360 degree video) they have published the video on youtube which we’ve posted above.

360 degree video is the wave of the feature for video. Literally the possibilities are endless. We wonder if they could strap one underneath one of their rally cars. That would be JUST as interesting.
