Subaru has a three-row SUV on the way and it’s American made
By Paulo Acoba
Subaru is on its seventh consecutive year of sales records and this SUV may see those sales records keep climbing and climbing.
Lafeyette, Indiana all let out a collective cheer when news dropped from Subaru HQ in Cherry Hill, NJ that a new Subaru three-row SUV was in the works and on the way. Earlier Monday (Nov. 9, 2015) according to Subaru’s press release, a successor to the Tribeca is in the works and production will begin sometime in 2018. The Tribeca ended production a little over a year ago and has left Subaru without anything bigger than their Subaru Outback to fill those in the market for something bigger. This will definitely remedy that.

Currently the Subaru Legacy, Outback, Impreza sedan and hatchback are all made at Subaru of Indiana Automotive. With the inclusion of this SUV, that number will be pushed up to four. Currently, SIA is pumping out 228,000 units annually. When the Impreza is introduced, that number will rise to 394,000
"“We are delighted to be bringing even more Subaru manufacturing to the U.S. The new model will also result in increased investment at SIA and at several of our suppliers across the country.”"
A big complaint from Tribeca owners was that the third row was way to small for any full-size adult. With an increased length and wheelbase, we’ll be curious to see how adults like it back there.
The way we see it, the large majority of those who buy this SUV won’t actually be sitting three adults back there anyway. But sometimes it’s the idea that you CAN sit three in a pinch that matters.
No word on what kind of engine will be stuffed underneath the hood but expect Subaru’s 3.6 liter flat six to take over propulsion duties.
