2016 Chevrolet Cruze Undercuts Competition With $17495 MSRP

GM Announced pricing for its 2016 Chevrolet Cruze starting at $17495
A large number of car manufacturers with compact car offerings have thoroughly revamped their cars for 2016 and the Chevrolet Cruze with its redesigned body work, new standard engine and more standard features rounds out the bunch. Earlier Thursday Chevrolet dropped final pricing information on the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze and although prices increased a bit over the model it replaced, the Cruze still remains competitively priced while offering more value.
- L manual – $17,495
- LS manual – $18,995
- LS automatic – $19,995
- LT automatic $21,995
- Premier automatic – $23,995.
Powering all these trim levels is GM’s all-new 1.4L turbo Ecotec, part of GM’s small-displacement family of engines. Although small, the 1.4L makes 138 HP and 148 lb-ft of torque at a low 2500 RPM, delivering useable power where it matters the most. Paired to the 1.4 is a manual in the L and LS with an optional six-speed automatic in the LT and Premier trims.

The name of the game with this engine displacement downsizing has always been to eek out the most MPG, so although official numbers haven’t been released, expect combined ratings to hover around 40 MPG.
GM did point out that their Cruze L still comes in well below Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra but even if you step up one trim level, you’re well within premium compact territory (so option with discretion.)
GM’s all new Chevy Cruze certainly is a head turner with its new redesign and offers all the fit and finish and performance we’d expect in today’s heated compact market, but whether or not it’s enough to sway the Civic and Corolla crowd has yet to be determined.
