This semi-classic 1995 Porsche 911 outfitted with an RWB bodykit and resprayed Guards Red popped up on eBay for $175,000.

When you see your body kit pop up on Need for Speed for Xbox, you know your car is either played out or on the cusp of a serious bump in popularity. Thanks to our motoring friends over at VW Vortex earlier this weekend, we caught wind of one very ostentatious Guards Red Porsche 911 on eBay with the owner asking for a cool $175,000. With that asking price, sight unseen, you’d think the owner was selling an RS America spec coupe which does fetch those prices but upon closer inspection, this 911 is your run of the mill Carrera Coupe.

Between the years 1993-1998 there were roughly (no pun intended. If you know what I mean, leave a comment below) 68,000 units built with various trim levels. Some trim levels sported turbo units and extra (or lack of) go fast parts made them more desirable. But all in all, there are plenty of these examples floating around. Basic economics from fifth grade states that the market price for any good is what someone is willing to pay for it. And according to Hagerty, the foremost authority on used classic car prices, 911 Carrera Coupes are going for about $25,000 on a good day.

The engine isn’t exactly a spring chicken with over 131,000 on the odometer and this Porsche 911 is far from stock. So where is this extra $150,000 this particular owner is asking for? The kit itself costs somewhere around $22,000, the engine has been reworked with go-fast parts from FabSpeed, the wheels are custom 3-piece wheels you won’t find anywhere else, the suspension has been reworked with ERP spec dampers and springs all around and the interior has been given a thorough once over with a full custom Alcantara treatment.

But here’s the key sentence.

That’s the same guy that’s been profiled in Need For Speed and has been blessed by those responsible for determining what is and isn’t cool as being certifiably cool when it comes to modding your Porsche. It’s hit mainstream. Everyone wants an RWB Porsche but few have the money to buy one.

Porsche’s have been widened, fitted with crazy over fenders and been given the race car treatment dare we say, better than anything RWB puts out. But RWB is the one that’s marketed it, packaged it and sold it to us as being authentically cool. Purests be damned.
