Reddit User “Glockshna” parked his Toyota Venza next to his log cabin and woke up the next morning to his Venza destroyed by a bear.

If you park your car in a wooded area frequented by bears, you’d better make sure that there’s nothing in your car that would attract those curious yet ferocious creatures to your vehicle. Reddit user Glockshna found that out the hard way when he parked his 2014 Toyota Venza next to his Log cabin.

Apparently this burly Virginian, like a lot of Virginians who’ve lived next to these storied Appalachian mountains, calls a log cabin in the high up elevations of the Commonwealth his home. Well aware of the dangers of what leaving food inside your car can do, he made every precaution to make sure that his car wouldn’t be a target, except for this one time where he forgot a candy bar inside. Check out the photos he posted on his Flickr account below. It’s not pretty.

According to Glockshna,

"“This happened while I was sleeping so I can only guess how he ended up getting out (my guess is a lucky bite on a door handle) but while he was in the car he managed to pull every door panel off including the back hatch which mechanically doesn’t open anymore. He also went to town on most of the wiring in the roof including the driver’s side airbag and the moonroof control panel which is lying in the driver’s seat.”"

Insurance did swing by to check out his beloved Venza and although the exterior of his Toyota was somewhat fine, the interior was deemed too far gone to repair and was given a salvage title (meaning the costs for repairs is far above the actual cost of the car. ) If he had optioned out his Venza with the less expensive manual seats, it would’ve been a different story but at a price of $5,000 a seat it looks like a new car is in his future.

Bears are smart and extremely sensitive to all types of smells so the next time you decide to head up to any bear infested areas, be sure to remove any food or traces of food from your cargo area.
