This Is It: FFZero1 Concept Is A 1000 HP Electric Hypercar

Earlier today during CES 2016, Faraday Future went ahead and unveiled their FF Zero 1 Concept Supercar.

What has 1000 HP, is all-electric, has a variable platform architecture, only one seat and has the ability to reach 200 MPH? Faraday Future went ahead and unveiled its FFZero1 concept supercar to the world at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show and it’s a glimpse at just how capable this variable platform architecture really is.

Although the 1000 HP quad motor capable of a blast to 60 MPH might be the headline, the real story is just how flexible the underlying platform is. According to Nick Simpson, Senior VP at Faraday,

"We can change the number and power of the drive systems. We can change the physical size and electrical size of the battery packs, so we can get bigger and larger packs and smaller packs both on the electrical size and physical size because of the modularity of how the battery architecture is being done, which is unique compared to anybody else in the industry. The underlying story is all about the platform that’s being built."

Earlier in the year, Farda hinted at a totally different consumer buying experience which was somewhat clarified during today’s presentation. Thanks to the variability of the platform, buyers who opt into Faraday Future’s subscription service can subscribe into choosing more than one platform. Theoretically, they can purchase a Faraday Future with a sports sedan body, but swap an SUV body when the need for more cargo space and towing capacity might be needed.

As far as battery suppliers go, it’s been hush-hush as to who Faraday is going to partner with, but an announcement earlier this week that Faraday Future was going to be working with Chinese media firm LeTV shed some light on that mystery. The Chinese media firm has already committed up to $1 billion dollar 3-million-square-foot factory in Las Vegas. We’ll see Faraday Future break ground on that facility in the coming weeks.

According to Faraday spokesperson, Stacy Morris

"We are moving fast. Showing a high-performance vehicle speaks to our DNA. The company’s been around for less than 18 months, and we’re now up to 550 employees in Southern California. Bringing a car to market, we’re trying to do it as quickly as possible, but we are going to make sure that quality is a priority.”"

There were no definitive deadlines given as to when Faraday Future would produce an actual consumer car, but Faraday hinted at one coming to market within the next couple of years.

More cars: Why This Leaked Faraday Future Concept Is Not A Tesla Killer

We wonder how the market will evolve for electric cars in that time and where Tesla will be by then. By that time, the affordable Tesla Model 3 will already have been selling and a new generation Model S would’ve been introduced.
