Make a list of the what you want to do.

If you are just fixing up a running car or doing a complete restoration, make a list of the things you want to do. Break them up into sections that are achievable.

More from Art of Gears

For instance, do not put paint car as one thing. Break it down into smaller parts you can accomplish. Make a body work section that has, initial sand, body filler, primer, block sand, wet sand, paint. If you have a panel that is particularly bad make it one section.

Do not be tempted to just make a “rebuild engine” section. You have to get the motor out, disassemble, get parts machined, reassemble bottom end, assemble top end, paint, and finally install engine. Each one of those items can be completed in a day or two.

The key is to make sure that you can accomplish items on the list in a day or two. You will feel like you are making progress whenever you can cross an item off. Every item that has to be done break it down, you will feel better about seeing your list get smaller and smaller.
