Lotus is bringing us in the USA the Evora 400 in 2017. Could this be the most fun car you can buy?

Lotus has been building light nimble cars for quite some time. They have been able to keep from having to fight the horsepower wars by keeping their cars on a strict diet. Their diminutive stature and futuristic styling have always been eye-catching. Now we get the Evora 400 and it is a new bundle of fun.

This new entry for Lotus features a 3.5L Toyota V6 that is pushing out an impressive 400HP and 302 lb-ft torque. That gives the Evora, weighing in at just 3,153lbs, a power to weight ratio close to the Corvette Stingray. With its shorter wheelbase and hydraulic assisted steering, you can throw it into the corners and power out as if it was a track day every day.

With the ever climbing prices of performance cars, Lotus is giving you a car that will not just compete with, but beat cars that cost twice as much. Now you are not going to have all the amenities of a Porsche or craziness of a Lamborgini. What you are going to have is a car that everyone envies at the track. Not to mention the lap times that everyone will envy at track days.

More from Cars

In Europe, there is an abundance of cars that can hit the street and the track. Here in the USA we do not have many cars that can fill both roles outside the Porsche. The Lotus Evora is unique in that is is at home taking the green flag or pulling away from the green light.

For those of you that are thinking about spending more time on the track, Lotus can shed another 93lbs. Now that comes at the cost of the AC and rear seat, but includes carbon fiber body parts and titanium exhaust. That weight loss does come at a price, $20,000. Well worth it for another second and a half on the track.

The Evora 400 is the most powerful Lotus to hit the streets. That added power does give a bit more body roll than the Elise. It is worth it when you mash the gas and launch out of the corners. The two piece AP brakes on the Evora stay incredibly consistent even when punished. Another advantage of the Lotus factory diet, less to stop.

Let’s be honest, the Lotus Evora 400 is not an everyday car. It is a car that you are going to pull out when you want to smile and have fun. The Lotus is made for when you want to feel like a kid at the go-kart track again. This time though, you have the best car every time.

So many times car makers throw too much at a car to justify the price. Lotus knows what its owners want and does it very well. When looking around at the other options at $100,000, it is hard not to say that you are going to have the most fun and get the most looks from the Lotus Evora 400.
