Ford is planning a massive $4.5 billion investment in electric and hybrid vehicles in the next 5 years. The investment will lead to things like a F-150 Hybrid and even a Mustang Hybrid making it to the dealers. Now, we really have no idea on how many purists will be interested in seeing a Mustang Hybrid on the road. But law enforcement agencies will be happy to see their pursuit vehicle fleet being upgraded to feature the Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan.

Ford Media Center is referring to the Ford Fusion-based police responder as the “industry’s first pursuit-rated hybrid police car”. On a lengthier note, the car is the first hybrid to certified by police agencies to be capable enough to handle pursuits at various speeds and can endure the impact delivered by running over curbs and flooded intersections. In short terms, it’s well-built for urban policing.

The manufacturer has the lion’s share of the police vehicle market in the US with 63% of cop cars sold bearing the Ford badge. If things had to be taken to the next level, then it had to come from Ford and the hybrid cop car is one solid start. Ford has got one more hybrid police vehicle in the pipeline. We are placing our bets on a bulky SUV to fill in that slot, probably one based on the upcoming F-150 Hybrid.
