Everyone is after the Nürburgring lap record. A few weeks ago, the all-electric NIO EP9 lapped the track faster than the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Now SCG has released a video hinting at their contender – SCG003S – being up for the challenge.

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus – better known as SCG in the endurance racing circles is a brand helmed by Jim Glickenhaus. Drawing from the lessons learnt while preparing race cars for the highly-demanding world of 24-hour endurance racing, the company is expanding into the business of building high-performance road cars.

They’ll start off with the SCG003S – which is in fact the road-going version of their track car. Speaking of which, the GT3-spec racer is already making news for its blistering speed. Just to show what that canvas can do on a good day with a challenging track to play on, its makers took an SCG003C competition car to the Nürburgring and told the driver to drive it flat out.

That’s exactly what the driver did and he lapped the circuit in a race car which ran on racing slicks, had almost 500 hp of power, an additional ballast weight of 100 kg and was built to meet racing regulations. Plus, there were other cars on the Ring to avoid crashing into. Despite all those hurdles, the SCG003C beat the Porsche 918 Spyder (6:57), the Lamborghini Huracan Performante (6:52) and the recent Nürburgring sensation – the NIO EP9 (6:45).

Will the SCG003S lap the Ring in 6:30? Right now, that doesn’t look as far-fetched as it used to before.

The video released by SCG with its split-screen treatment (that’s very 24!) shows the SCG003C lapping the track in the neighborhood of 6:40. Yes, it’s a race-spec car. But do note that the production version is going to have 200 hp more of power and a lot of active aerodynamics to aid it. Add road tires or even the special road tires similar to those used by Lambo and Porsche during their respective runs, remove the traffic completely and the production model of the racer may turn out to be faster than whatever contender that’s there on the board.

The numbers and tech specs of the SCG003S are also an indication to the car being capable enough to dominate the Ring. A twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine churning out more than 750 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque is more than enough to push a car weighing less than 1,300 kg to mind-blowing speeds.
