Honda Civic Type R: The First US-Bound Car Is Up For Auction
The first copy of the US- bound 2017 Honda Civic Type R has a greater purpose at hand than setting lap records. It’s being auctioned off and the sum will be channeled towards treating children with cancer.
The tedious wait comes to a fruitful close as North America sees its very first example of the latest iteration of 2017 Honda Civic Type R, up for auction online. The first car which comes in a shade of Aegean Blue Metallic and the proceeds of the auction will go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
At the time of penning this post, the bid has already crossed $200,000 at Bring A Trailer. Once the auction concludes the winning bidder will get the Civic Type-R shipped to a participating Honda dealership for pickup.
Commenting on the initiative was Jeff Conrad, Senior Vice President, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
"The Civic Type R has long been forbidden fruit for enthusiasts in the U.S., so we thought it would be fun to offer one lucky customer a shot at owning the first of its kind in America while benefitting the leading nonprofit solely dedicated to finding a cure for childhood brain tumors, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation."

The 2017 Honda Civic Type R had recently been in the headlines for bagging the title of the “fastest front-wheel drive production vehicle around the Nurburgring“. It then had a lap time of 7 minutes 43.80 seconds, and that’s almost 5.5 seconds quicker than that of the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S, one of the most sought-after performance hatches around and nearly 7 seconds faster than the new Civic’s predecessor.
Under the hood of this hot little machine is a highly capable,Ohio-built turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol mill, that churns out 306 hp of sheer power and 400 Nm of peak torque.Unlike its rivals, the Honda Civic Type R comes with just a 6-speed manual gearbox and America will receive the Type R in its Touring trim. A cheaper and lighter version may be on the cards too. But that’s going to take a while.

The car’s specially-designed front-strut suspension, the “Dual Axis”, as Honda calls it, is claimed to reduce the torque steer caused by its front wheel drive layout. The Honda Civic Type R will also be loaded with goodies like Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto,12-speaker and 540 watt stereo system.
Expect the Ford Focus RS and VW Golf R to put up tough competition for the Type R.
