This is it. The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 in all its true glory and boy, doesn’t the 592 hp Jag look the part! The price tag is heart attack-inducing though.

A few days ago, we posted a late update (that’s contradictory) on the upcoming Jaguar XE SV Project 8 super sedan. A 592 hp monster with the tag of the most powerful road-legal Jaguar in the brand’s history. Developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Operations (SVO), the roaring big cat has now been unveiled in its production guise and that too at the perfect time. Right before its big debut at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed!

Remember the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 from 2014? This souped-up XE is the spiritual successor to that creation and is perhaps one more testimonial about the capabilities of the SVO division. And by the way it looks and after going through what has gone into it, the XE SV Project 8 has once again proved that the in-house tuner is phenomenal in making Jags meaner.

The 5.0-liter supercharged V8 under the hood churns out 592 hp of power and 516 pound-feet of torque. Let’s underline one fact about that unit. It’s the highest level of tuning that the Jaguar Landrover supercharged V8 has ever been given. And pairing it with an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive lends the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 lends the car with acceleration and speed that’s hard to digest for a car of its class.

A 200 mph top speed and 0-60 mph time of 3.3 seconds. All of a sudden we are in supercar territory, in a 4-door sedan. With its chassis and suspension tuning done based on extensive testing carried out at Nardo and the Nürburgring, the SV Project 8 promises incredibly sharp handling when pushed to the edge. Ride height selection is also in place to make the Project 8 sedan adapt to both road and track uses.

Attempts to shed weight without compromising on structural rigidity led to the inclusion of carbon-fiber, titanium and aluminum in the sedan’s construction. Wheels are made of forged aluminum, the hood and bumpers are in carbon-fiber and the exhaust is all titanium.

Outside the US, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 can be ordered with a roll cage along with racing seats and harness. US customers will get the version rear seats. Bummer!

We left the styling for the last. Once that specially-designed camouflage was shed, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 got coated in a shade of flaming orange which does absolute justice to the car’s wild and fiery nature. You didn’t like the color? Don’t worry about it as Jaguar has 8 body color options and the customer can also go for a color of choice from the SVO Premium Palette range.

More from Cars

Though it retains the basic shape of the regular XE, do note that the Project 8 machine is almost entirely built by hand at the SVO Technical Center in Warwickshire, UK. Adding more muscle to the car’s appearance are the flaring wheel arches at the front and rear. Changes had to be made to the doors to accommodate the bulkier arches which house 305-size tires now. And that purposeful, adjustable rear wing wraps up the show in scintillating fashion.

The super sedan can be ordered in Track Pack version which will see the integration of a featuring a roll cage at the back (instead of the rear seats), two race specification seats at the front and Harness Retention Hoop. But that’s for markets outside North America. US buyers will have to make their peace with the rear seats.

Only 300 cars will be made bearing the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 moniker and some of them will be shipped to the US. Actual numbers aren’t out yet. But expect the car to be priced somewhere in the range of $192,000-$200,000 when it lands here, as it costs 149,995 GBP in the UK.
