Porsche To Make Half Of Their Cars Electric By 2023
Porsche CEO wants half of the brand’s cars to be electrified by 2023. How are the purists going to take this news?
Porsche has big plans as far as moving to electricity-powered cars is concerned. While it may not opt for sports cars like the 911 to be powered by hybrid or electric powerplants, that won’t be stopping it from experimenting with the tech for its sedan, SUV and crossover vehicles.
This was first reported by Manager Magazin – a German business publication – which got to speak with Porsche CEO Oliver Blume who went on to elaborate on company’s electric vehicle plans. The carmaker will start off with 2019’s Porsche Mission E and will follow that up with an electric crossover vehicle.
Yep, a crossover and since we’ve seen a test mule which looks like a jacked-up Panamera back in 2016, that isn’t a shocking revelation. Plus, the brand would really like to expand its SUV portfolio as the Cayenne and Macan aren’t just enough to cater to the ever-demanding luxury SUV buyers.
For now, Porsche won’t be tampering with its sports cars. The EV route will be taken by the sedans and crossovers first.

A report on The Drive states that the CEO also mentioned the company’s upcoming big gamble. It is planning to launch the next-generation Porsche Macan in electric vehicle format only. That could end up being a make-or-break deal for Porsche as the aforementioned Macan in its fossil-fuel guzzling form is the brand’s current best-seller.
One wrong move and the whole idea of releasing a new generation version of a gasoline-powered vehicle which is selling like hot cakes now, may backfire in a disastrous manner. Porsche has plans to launch the new Macan in EV guise by 2022. Hopefully, the market will be more receptive towards electric vehicles then.

The EV segment is growing and once the general car-buying populace as well as Porsche’s target clientele are open to the idea of buying an electric crossover/SUV, it will bring forth the brand’s plan to electrify half of its cars by 2023.
