The Rolls Royce Phantom in its new avatar is all set to take the title of “The Best Car in the World”. One look at it is enough to tell us why it can earn that tag.

The all-new Rolls Royce Phantom is more or less the same car which it replaces, at least at first glance. The shape and design are unmistakably Rolls Royce and to the casual onlooker, it has the same lines and design as its predecessor. But look closer as any connoisseur and admirer of hyper-luxury cars would do, and then it becomes evident that this is an all-new piece of art.

The devil is of course in the details as the Spirit of Ecstasy is perched above a new front grille now. The latter has been integrated into the bodywork seamlessly unlike in the previous model. Headlamps flanking that imposing grille have laserlight tech which will allow superior visibility at night. So, they are more than about the good looks.

Two stainless steel strips emerge from both sides of the grille’s top, run along the edges of the front hood, proceed their way up and wrap around the windshield. That’s one classy highlight when viewed from the front. A similar treatment has been given to the side windows too, with a wraparound stainless steel strips on each side. The rear windshield also gets the same outline.

The Gallery set up on the dashboard of the new Rolls Royce Phantom will serve the function of… an art gallery.

More from Cars

The interior is where the new Rolls Royce Phantom comes into its elements. It’s a Rolls Royce. So all the finest of luxury features, top-class finish in trim and a long list of creature comforts have been shoved into a hyper-luxury limousine. The layout and craftsmanship is exquisite. The onboard entertainment system is one of the best in the business and the number of seat arrangements that the carmaker is offering can turn the interior of the car into a mansion, club, luxury aircraft or lounge on wheels. As always, Rolls Royce will offer the Phantom with a million customization options to make each car as unique as its owner.

Our pick from the list of the Phantom’s imaginative features has to be “The Gallery”. It’s a shatter-proof glass-covered case on the dashboard which can house a piece of art. It’s a very expensive display case inside your car, if put in simpler terms. Customers can opt from a range of examples that Rolls Royce has on the options list or they can even commission their own.

Carfection has released an up close and personal video of the latest Rolls Royce Phantom. That’s somewhere at the bottom of this post.

Rolls Royce have also gone back to their love for making cars that are quiet. Sound insulation systems do add to the weight of the Phantom. But anything for the sake of making the car as quiet and comfortable for its occupants seems to be Rolls Royce’s philosophy here. Even the tires were designed to make a less noise on rolling.

Anyone wishes to know about the mechanicals? The 6.75-liter V12 engine produces 563 hp of power, 663 lb-ft of torque and comes mated with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. An aluminum spaceframe platform which offers a lot of scalability is another one of the Phantom’s many plus points. You’ll see that architecture being put to good use in most of the upcoming cars from Rolls Royce’s stable. The suspension setup deserves a mention here as it takes feeds from a handful of sources while the car is being driven and tweaks the ride on the fly, thereby offering the most comfortable ride for the passengers.
