The Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster follows the coupe version and at $460,000, it’s not at all easy on the wallet, even if you are rich.

For those who love the pleasures of open-air driving and the thrills of being in a Lamborghini, the Italian carmaker has launched the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. As always Lamborghini has retained the good stuff about the coupe while gifting the car and its occupants with the fun and wind-in-the-hair experience that a drop top can provide.

When the sun is too hot or the rain is too strong, you can protect yourself and the interior from the elements with the detachable hardtop roof that can be stowed away in the luggage bay in the front.

But more than the missing roof, it’s the S treatment which needs mention here. “S” doesn’t stand for hope here. But it definitely means this range of Aventadors have received comprehensive improvements in every department. And that includes the reprogrammed Independent Shifting Rod 7-speed single-clutch automated manual transmission taken from the coupe.

In order to make the roadster just as good as the coupe in aerodynamic efficiency, Lambo designers went ahead and redid the rear and top of the roadster. It’s more dramatic to look at compared to the engine cover area on the coupe and you can choose between carbon-fiber and transparent panels. We’d take the one which gives a clear view of that V12 engine though.

The Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster has rear window to roll down and listen to the glorious engine note. Now, that’s called “being thoughtful”.

More from Cars

That 6.6-liter V12 makes 740 hp of power now, with the torque remaining the same at 509 lb-ft. Being heavier that the coupe, the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster is slower to the 62 mph mark from a standstill by 0.1 seconds. But no need to worry, as the time taken for that is a very-impressive 3 seconds. Go pedal happy and it the drop top can get to a top whack of 217 mph.

A new suspension setup, all-wheel drive, real-wheel steering, staggered wheels – the Roadster has the hardware to deliver excellent handling dynamics. Then there is the driving mode selection system that features STRADA, SPORT, CORSA and the new EGO modes. EGO lets you go ahead and be the mad scientist yourself, by tweaking the settings to match your driving style.
