Gordon Murray, designer of the McLaren F1 hypercar, is launching his own limited-production automotive brand called Gordon Murray Automotive.

The new company will serve as a sister company to Gordon Murray Design. The goal is to take Murray’s renown car designs and put them into production. These vehicles will be in very limited numbers, as this new branch is a low-volume one. All of these cars will be based on Murray’s iStream production process, which is safer and better for the environment. The process uses lightweight Formula One technology to produce cars with fewer CO2 emissions than regular road vehicles.

The firm’s first iStream design included the T25 and T27. These models addressed major design strategies related to city issues like weight, footprint, safety, efficiency and usability. In 2015, Murray’s design company engineered and built the Yamaha Sports Ride Concept, a two-seater sports car that has not yet been produced.

Gordon plans to keep the cost of his new vehicles fairly low, and aims to build a supercar that is under 2000 pounds. The iStream technology process makes lightweight vehicles possible through its use of composite panels bonded to a steel tube chassis. The result is an ultra-light space frame that remains impressively rigid at the same time. This process has proved to be extremely effective and strong in crash tests as well.

Murray reportedly told Autocar,

"“The new manufacturing business significantly expands the capabilities of our group. With our first new car, we will demonstrate a return to the design and engineering principles that have made the McLaren F1 such an icon.”"

Decades of legendary vehicles will come together for a remarkable event that you won’t want to miss!
