FCA-owned Alfa Romeo issues a recall on 307 units of Giulias and Stelvios in the U.S. due to issues with their brake fluids.

Following an internal investigation that found out the presence of mineral oil in the brake fluid, Alfa Romeo has now issued a recall for a few hundred units of Giulias and Stelvios. These units are ones that may have been filled with the contaminated brake fluid. All 307 vehicles are located in the United States and are 2018 models that were manufactured in November of 2017.

The fact that any foreign substance can be found in the brake system is definitely a major cause of concern. The presence of mineral oil in the brake fluid could possibly damage the entire brake system and might eventually lead to an unmitigated brake failure too. These are all both costly and fairly dangerous components to have break or be repaired.

As per what we have come to know from the authorities, the decreasing braking performance may provide a warning before coming to a complete breakdown. For example, the driver may see a warning light on the dash informing him/her of such issue.

Owners of the infected cars would directly be contacted by the manufacturer at the earliest possible time. The authorities say the cars would soon be returned to the dealer for a comprehensive brake inspection and a full system replacement, if necessary.

If any of the affected customers have already experienced a braking issue and were forced to pay out of pocket, they will be refunded by the manufacturer immediately.

The recall is set to officially take place on February 8th of this year. Stay alert and check your mail! For more information, you can check here.
