Here is what to look for if you belong to those less fortunate strata of the society who cannot afford the rugged and luxurious Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. These alternatives will not disappoint the enthusiast.

We all have seen the new Mercedes-Benz G Class – looks stunning, doesn’t it ? The first complete rework of the highly acclaimed SUV after its introduction back in 1979, sure does justice to its predecessor. However, with the car starting at 107,040.50 Euros ($130,977) in Germany, it is definitely difficult for many to afford. Dear folks, don’t you worry – we have got you covered! Below is a lot of some healthy alternatives that would yield you almost similar luxuries and offroading capabilities as the mighty G. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Hummer H2

This might be the one that resembles the G class the most in shape, thanks to the rugged boxy design and a cabin that flaunts a multitude of luxuries. However, you won’t find one to drive home straight from the showroom as the car is no longer in production. But again, there is a bright ray of hope as you can find great deals  for some prices at about $75,000 or so, provided you are okay with the low fuel economy of the SUT pickup models. Should you opt to have the 393 hp 6.2-liter V8 of the 2008 and newer models, you have to pay a bit more. It is not too much of a concern, especially if you take into account how massively imposing the car is on the roads.

Range Rover Sport

No, there are definitely no three locking differentials like the G class in it, but the Sport isn’t that bad at offroading either. With the SVR model on offer, the Sport is definitely worth a shot. A used SVR model would only cost you less than $90,000 while a new one would set you back by $113,000. In the real world conditions, where the niche of your daily usage are the streets, it’s of no flaw to go for something like an SVR. The 2015 SVR flaunts a massive 5.0-liter supercharged V8 that churns out 550 hp. Also worth mentioning are the impressive handling and offroad capabilities of this German model.

F-150 Raptor

The Raptor may not be anywhere near the G Class on the luxury front, but it is definitely as capable as the German in off-road drives. The best part is the price. At around $50,000, almost half of the price of a G Class, you can have one of the most respected and popular American trucks on the market. The Raptor surely holds up to its name and proves its prowess both on the road and off of it.

Volvo V90 Cross Country

With prices starting at the $52,000 mark, the Cross Country is one such adorable wagon that boasts of a number of interesting techies like semi-autonomous driving features and class-leading luxuries like massage seats. Though not as rugged as the G-Wagon offroader, this is the most luxurious alternative you could ever get for such a copious margin in price!

Used G Class

A used G-Wagon, a G55 AMG in particular, would be another great choice. With the same DNA and almost the same shape, a used G, if bought and fitted with new headlamps and taillamps, would give anyone tough times distinguishing between the two. The 5.4 -liter supercharged V8-liter supercharged V8, however, has evolved much over the years. You can never go wrong with an older model, especially one as valuable as a Benz G Class.
