Fiat Abarth 124 GT Gets Removable Carbon-Fiber Hardtop
We have always thought the Fiat Abarth 124 would be much better if it had a hardtop, and it seems like Italian automaker heard us.
If you remember back, Fiat unveiled the Fiat 124 Spider-based Abarth 124 Rally model at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Now, the Italian marque is taking the wraps off the Rally-inspired Abarth 124 GT at this year’s show. Just like its racer sibling, the 124 GT roadster will have an available removable hardtop that promises to improve its structural rigidity without compromising comfort and usability.
The Abart 124 GT features an exclusive Alpi Orientali Grey exterior paint color.
The 124 GT version will keep its manually operated soft-top convertible roof; but now a lightweight carbon fiber hardtop is an option. The brand says that the top weighs approximately 35 lbs and will help with its torsional properties. It is also said to improve thermal insulation and help with soundproofing.

Apart from the optional carbon fiber roof, the Abarth 124 GT comes equipped with 17-inch OZ wheels, which are a little over 6 pounds lighter than the standard wheels. It also includes a gunmetal powder-coated mirror caps and an optional rear spoiler.
The GT roadster is powered by a 1.4-liter turbo engine that puts out 170 horsepower and can propel the car from 0-60 miles per hour in just 6.8 seconds. Also present is the Record Monza dual-mode exhaust, of course, because an Abarth wouldn’t be one without that unmistakable tune. It can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
The Fiat 124 Spider S-Design is the second special model to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
This limited edition model is only available on the Lusso trim. It features polished steel roll bars, a tricolor rear badge and a lower red side stripe. It also comes with a unique set of 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels.
According to MotorTrend,
"“Both 124 special editions will debut alongside the 500 Abarth 695 Rivale special edition, the 500X S-Design, Tipio S-Design, and the 500 Mirror edition family (500, 500X, 500L). These special edition models will not reach our shores, but there is a chance Fiat will bring over similarly equipped models eventually.”"
There hasn’t been any announcements, yet, about whether or not Fiat fans in the U.S. will be able to purchase the Abarth 124 or the hardtop convertible. We hope to hear some word about this soon, as many enthusiasts are really happy about this notice.
