NIO EP9 All-Electric Supercar Shatters Nürburgring Lap Record!
NextEV’s NIO EP9 all-electric supercar has beaten the Lamborghini Huracan Performante to become the fastest car around the Nürburgring. We are eagerly waiting for the lap video.
A few weeks ago, the 2017 Honda Civic Type-R became the fastest FWD production car around the legendary racetrack in Nordschleife. However, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s 6:52.01 lap time remained unbeaten. There are rumors of Porsche trying to beat that time to take back the record that once belonged to the 918 Spyder. But now we have a new ruler who has taken the crown – the NIO EP9 from NextEV.
Clocking a lap time of 6:45.9, the NIO EP9 beat its own previous lap record by a near-20-second margin. The first attempt in 2016 attempt had got it the title of the fastest electric car around the revered track. Its recent attempt covered the distance 7 seconds quicker than the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, thereby giving it the new rank as the fastest car around the track.
There is a lot of buzz online on whether the NIO EP9 should be regarded as a production car since only 7 units have been built so far with 6 of them being taken by the investors. But if you look at the list of cars which have set impressive lap times on the gruelling track, you’ll find a handful of names which don’t exactly qualify as production cars.
The all-electric supercar from China’s NextEV is already being referred to as the fastest EV in the world and also the fastest autonomous car in the world.
So in all its fairness, this small yet ambitious company’s efforts shouldn’t go unnoticed and unrewarded. We’d say, give the lap-record holder rank and let that fuel the big boys’ ambition to go for greater heights.
The “Monster Gallery” as usual is right there in our Facebook Page.
This all-electric supercar from China has destroyed every single production car which has ever lapped the Nürburgring. Say hello to the new fastest car around the Ring!

Purists aren’t going to like this one, because it’s an all-electric supercar. Having said that, its power figures are ample enough to turn even some of its most fanatical haters into ardent admirers. The four motors that power the wheels produce a massive power output of 1341 hp and an incredible torque figure of 4671 lb-ft. We are on this one’s side already.

NextEV is planning to make another 10 units of the NIO EP9 with a price tag of $1.48 million each. The cars will be made to order. With lap records set on four other racetracks around the world, the 194 mph speedster will be having more interested parties lining up, post its new standing as the Nürburgring lap record holder.
NextEV hasn’t released a video yet of the lap-record run made by the NIO EP9. It’ll take another week’s time before that clip is released. Until then, feast on the one which shows the supercar’s previous run at the Nürburgring which earned it the title of the fastest EV around the Ring.

The NIO EP9’s EV lap record-breaking sprint may not be accompanied by the glorious exhaust note of a gasoline-powered supercar. But trust us when we say this. The whining of the electric motors at full throttle coupled with the sound of the car cutting through air at insanely high speeds is something which you’ll start taking a liking for.
