No one is to blame here, as the Czech police officer who was piloting the BMW i8 cop car suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle.

We had a post a couple of days ago on the Coptimus Prime Corvette Z06 of the New Braunfels PD, Texas. Perhaps that post could’ve been started off with a mention of the Czech Republic police force’s BMW i8. It may have got missed amidst the glitz and glamor of the Dubai police’s fleet. Anyway, the news at hand isn’t a pleasant one, as the Czech BMW i8 cop car has crashed.

Carscoops has picked up two contradicting reports from regional sources – Auto.cz and Idnes.cz – on the incident. Unfortunately, the information being disseminated by the local media is hazy. Yet both reports do have one thing in common. The police officer behind the wheel had a medical emergency which in led to the crash.

The Auto.cz report says that it was a heart attack and they have shared a pic of the car as well, post the crash. The image shot at night with low light shows the car’s side airbag deployed. They have also mentioned that more details on the extent of the damage is unavailable.

More details on the damages as well as on the victim(s) of the BMW i8 police car crash are yet to surface.

The Idnes.cz report contradicts the nature of the medical emergency and says that the driver had suffered a stroke and that the car crashed into a creek because of it. That report goes on to add that a second person was also injured during the accident and that the young man in question was undergoing treatment for serious spinal injuries.

The BMW i8 was loaned to the Czech Republic Police a month ago as part of a collaboration between the authorities and BMW. The original plan was to see how the car performs as a patrol vehicle during a 6 month/12,000 mile testing phase. The deal has now been called off since things didn’t end well for the trial car.

BMW’s collaboration with the Czech Police also saw the induction of 11 BMW i3 cars to the law enforcement department’s fleet in the recent past. And those little ones are doing extremely well in their new roles. It’s sad that things didn’t work out the same way for the big guy though.
