When designing the all-new Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the German automaker knew it had to change just enough without changing too much.

The 2018 version of the Mercedes G-Class still has those body exterior proportions, but they’re a bit smoother to perhaps entice some newcomers. The luxury interior remains, and features an S-class level type of feel. Who knew that the G’s off-road prowess could get any better? Well, it did.

This time around it is even more capable than ever before thanks to an independent front suspension and more running ground clearance at the front. The updated body and frame meet the even stricter passive-safety requirements of the present-day. The powertrains are also more efficient, which is an added plus.

The designers and engineers worked tirelessly and meticulously to retain the true class of the G-class, while also bringing it into a modern-day generation. Both departments recognized and paid close attention to the needs and wants of buyers, and promise that the 2019 model will not disappoint.

Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its all-new G-Class at theDetroit Auto Show. It was such a renown presentation, that even Arnold Schwarzenegger showed up – the owner of a G wagon himself.

It is not hard to understand why this was a big deal. This is the first time the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has undergone this type of redesign since its debut in 1979. Mercedes-Benz recognizes the iconic status earned by the G-Class and made sure not to mess with it too much, for lack of a better word. Then again, the original version is considered to be somewhat of a dinosaur and we need something new to drool over.

Rest assured that while the new G-class may look”same,” it is “different” and perhaps even “better”. Don’t let the phrasing confuse you. Have a look for yourself, below.
