Hennessey Performance’s 1000-HP Camaro ZL1 has just reached a top speed of 217 MPH, now making it the world’s fastest Gen6 Camaro.

For daily drivers and those who aren’t too concerned with the numbers game, top speed may not be something that is of importance. However, if you are a die-hard car enthusiasts who knows everything there is to know about your car, it may very well be. This becomes especially true when you want to go on bragging to your friends about it.

Top speed becomes of top priority if you are one of the folks at Hennessey Performance. They took their highly-anticipated Exorcist Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 out for a top speed run to give customers just one more reason to buy their $120,000 car. The reason is that this impressive piece of muscle can hit over 200 miles per hour!

Hennessey achieved this by using a high-flow supercharger, ported cylinder heads, and custom camshaft. They also installed an upgraded valvetrain with new springs, lifters, pushrods and valves. A high-flow intercooler and a set of long-tube headers with high-flow catalytic converters is just the icing on this multi-layer cake.

The top speed run was conducted at the Continental Tire Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas.

The driver in the hot seat was professional driver and Ford Performance Driving School director Brian Smith. He stepped on the gas and took the Exorcist Camaro on a blood-rushing run on Continental’s 8.5-mile high-speed oval track and reached a verified speed of 217 miles per hour. Even more impressive than the result itself is that the ZL1 beat out the Corvette ZR1’s claimed 213 mph top speed.

According to CarBuzz, Hennessey now boasts that The Exorcist Camaro ZL1 is not only faster than the ZR1 Corvette, but also faster than a number of supercars. Included in this list are the Ferrari 812 Superfast, the Lamborghini Huracan, the Porsche 911 GT2 and the McLaren 720S.

Hennessey Performance president, John Hennessey, said:

"“We wanted to see if the Exorcist could exceed the top speed of the new ZR1 Corvette, which is 213 mph. Mission accomplished.“This is just the first high-performance validation test for the Exorcist. We also plan to test our car’s 0-60 mph and quarter-mile performance at the drag strip as well as handling and braking on a road course. Stay Tuned.”"

The Exorcist’s top speed is 19 mph faster than the stock Camaro ZL1’s factory speed of 198 mph. It is also 15 mph quicker than the fastest recorded speed for the Dodge Demon. Those numbers, alone, should speak for themselves.

John Hennessey added,

"“The Exorcist offers supercar performance while still retaining everything that you would want in a daily driver with a backseat and room for golf clubs in the trunk,. It’s kind of like having a new ZR1 Corvette with room for 4 people, but faster.”"
