Aston Martin may have a surprise or two in Geneva.
By Andrew Hulse
The Geneva Motor Show starts next week and Aston Martin’s CEO, Andy Palmer, is hinting at a couple surprises for us. In a press release, he detailed what the company will be bringing but also left the last sentence up to interpretation.
The 88th Geneva Motor show is upon us, this is one of the larger shows in terms of supercar and exotic reveals. In preparation for this, we have a list of what Aston Martin is bringing for the crowd to enjoy. The brand will get the biggest space it has ever had and will showcase the Aston Martin’s biggest presence at the show yet.
There will be a variety of cars on display:
- the new Vantage is making its global debut.
- the Vantage GTE will be alongside the Vantage to show its racing blood
- both versions of the DB11, the coupe and Volante will be on display
- and, lastly, for now, the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing F1 car will be on display with the 2018 race livery
All of these are exciting, however, the focus of this post is aimed at the very last, 12-word sentence of the press release. “Who knows, we may even have one or two surprises in store.”

We have written about Aston Martin looking for collaboration in China for EVs’. This has been in the news quite a bit lately and leads me to believe we are going to see an electric Aston. We know the brand is willing to do some odd things in the name of efficiency, see the Cygnet. This was made almost solely to comply with emissions standards. Is Aston Martin realizing electric vehicles are the future?
This seems to be a theme in the last week of my writing, almost every article has had some element of EV or hybrid.
Could we see an SUV?
This is also highly likely with the growing trend of ultra-lux and super SUVs. Lamborghini has the Urus, Bentley has the Bentayga just as a couple of examples. Ferrari also has finally admitted they will also have an SUV. So why not Aston?

It makes perfect sense to have an SUV. Aston Martin has had small cars, sports cars, and the Rapide 4 door sedan. The next logical step is an SUV. It would probably be similar to a grand tourer, fast but very luxurious.
Maybe we will even see an electric SUV…
