Sometimes even the most talented factory test drivers end up making mistakes. The one who drove the titular Koenigsegg Agera RS was no exception.

The Koenigsegg Agera RS is among the rarest, most-expensive and one of the fastest production cars in the world. The 1,160 hp twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine is a beast and one mistake on a car that powerful can lead to a lot of interesting paths to meet your maker.

Thankfully, the factory test driver of this particular Agera RS postponed that fatal meeting with God and only got his (or her) ego hurt. Alright, we were just being mean and jealous there. The wet conditions which were prevalent on the test track at the time of the crash may have been extremely challenging. Plus, there is only so much that even the best drivers can do once the elements have the edge over technology and skills.

The incident happened when the Koengisegg was undergoing shakedown testing on a wet track at Trollhattan, Sweden. The Agera RS which had a passenger on board along with the driver, spun out of the track and came to rest in a ditch. Thankfully, both occupants were not hurt, which validates the merits of the car’s structural integrity and safety systems.

The test track on which the Agera RS was being tested used to be owned by the now-defunct Saab. Koenigsegg often uses the track (which is now owned by NEVS) for testing.

The car isn’t in that bad a shape either, as seen in the picture posted on Swedish site Expressen. Yes, the bodywork requires work and most panels would need to be swapped out with fresh ones. However, the chassis is intact. The carmaker has confirmed in their blog that the mishap did not happen because of technical or mechanical issues (score!).

Koenigsegg may not opt for a repair-and-sell route for this piece though. It was made specifically for a client in the US and that customer may not really appreciate the idea of paying 7-digit figures for a car re-built from a crashed example. No matter how minor the crash was.

The customers in question may have some luck by his side though when it comes to the waiting period. Koenigsegg is aggressively hiring new employees to reduce delivery times from 4 years to 2 years. If the exotic carmaker has managed to acquire the required workforce, then the waiting period will be cut down. Still, 2 years isn’t a short period of time to wait for one’s dream car to arrive at the doorstep.

Koenigsegg Agera RS has a very limited production run of 25 units and is targeted at owners who want a thoroughbred track machine than a “standard-issue” exotic car to drive around in the fanciest cities on the planet. In short, it’s for those who love to drive and not for those who just want to be seen in one.
