Frankfurt Motor Show: Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Takes The Leap
By Alsad
The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy presented at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show will be part of a support race series to the 2018 FIA Formula E Championship.
The pictures you see here are of a car that 20 drivers will get to race around very select tracks around the world. One of the poster boys of the soon-to-be-launched FIA-backed Formula-E racing series. So why does it matter you ask? Well, the donor car for this first-come first-drive race series is the all new all electric Jaguar I-Pace. The boys from Warwickshire leaped ahead of the German big three to be the face of the recently-announced one-make race series that will be part of the 2018 Formula E Championship calendar. So prepare to greet, and maybe meet the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy.
The race car based on the upcoming I-Pace crossover has the Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) stamp all over it. The same guys who worked on the XE SV Project 8 didn’t disappoint at all when they were assigned with the task of creating an all-electric racing machine which will spearhead the support series to the Formula E Championship.
Races will be held in 10 venues around the globe and Jaguar’s marketing wing will be getting a major promotional boost with the new series.

Since technical specs of the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy are yet to be released, apart from the fact that there are no air crazy twin-charged V6s under the hood, the highlight here is that the race series is going to be the pave the path for manufacturers like Jaguar to keep overhauling their tech and continuously. From carburetors to pan heads to V18 engines and synchronous transmissions to dual clutches and paddle shifters, car makers have always been at each other one upping and innovating while we shelled out more for heated seats and champagne holders.

Anyone with a healthy bank balance and an international race license can participate in the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy racing series.

Back to the car. Now those 20 racers apart, us less-worthy mortals will be getting a toned-down, daily driver version in 2018. Take off those massive wings, mellow out on the fenders and intakes, tear off the flashy sponsor decals, remove the roll cage, soften the suspension for daily use and you get a road-worthy, tree-hugging, friendly-neighborhood Jaguar I-Pace.
It keeps the familiar face and adds bit of rage with those aggressive eyes. Results of a slow evolution rather than a radical revolution. Still looks as menacingly beautiful albeit a little too monotonous. What’s definitely radical about the I-Pace is that it is the company’s first electric car and will lead the charge as the company moves forward with its 2020 electrification plans.

This new race series brings about a new chapter in what we have experienced in mobility. The noise around the electric revolution maybe much more than the noise this I-Pace would make. But the FIA, Jaguar and soon-to-follow car makers will strive towards achieving the benchmarks that the previous century has set in terms of reliability, safe mobility and I as a fan is just as eager as you to see what gets us where in the future.
